Comments:
2-piece table with painted purfling and rosette; 4-piece back (2 above and 2 below fold) with no purfling. Neck, fingerboard, tailpiece, pegbox, and head not original; now has tailgut, possibly the original set-up. Fingerboard and tailpiece have edges in white and black (repeating pattern = 2W + 1B). No corner blocks or wooden edge linings, only cloth; 4 cross-braces on back. Varnish poor, tone excellent; restoration by the owner. Previous owner told him it had been played (as a cello) by his father and grandfather in a restaurant trio; bought perhaps in Stockholm in the late 19th C.
