Sotheby’s 1973/11/22, lot 72
1-piece (?) table and 1-piece back, both without purfling or other decoration; back and ribs are highly burled, probably walnut. Thick, dark varnish, including over multiple dings in table. Back and sides thought by F. Baines to be possibly by Jaye. Rib height at center bout 4.4; presumably cut down, but hard to tell. Sotheby’s: back and ribs of burr walnut; no purfling; length of back including button 40.6; late 17th century; head [i.e. pegbox and scroll; and surely also neck] by Dolmetsch.
