Comments:
Rather square shoulders; 2-piece back. Elaborately carved pegbox, rosette with coat of arms. Fingerboard and tailpiece black with light perimeter inlaid line. Identified on CDs as South German; restoration report by G. Hellwig, 1965 says probably that, but perhaps Prague based on soundholes (flames with lower eyes). Calls head “eine meisterliche Arbeit,” likely done by a specialist carver; it does not belong to the pegbox, which was too narrow and so replaced. Shoulders had been rounded, but restored to a more appropriate shape. New neck, fingerboard and tailpiece, hookbar; bass bar made smaller, many cracks repaired, etc.
