Comments:
Arched back, overhanging edges. 3 pegs treble, 2 bass side. Single purfling front and back. Pegbox completely open in back. Tailpiece has string holes in ivory bar: 4 in a row, plus fifth centered below those; tailgut. Unfretted when seen. In 2008, Bongham’s website said “in good original condition, repaired cracks in ribs and table, old ornate pegs (?original).” Likely the same as DVH 1723, at Opera House, Muscat, Oman (matching pegbox and tailpiece details), though they give its date as 1733.
