Comments:
Hellwig 2011, TieWV 169 (not in Hellwig 1980; he considered it the work of an imitator): no perimeter purfling on back, but unusual lines converging from above and below lower body corners to form a small diamond (as well as a long, narrow carved ornament covering nearly whole length of center joint). Neck grafted, but carvings at heel mostly original; carved pegbox with ivory appliqué on back (latter untypical for Tielke); all fittings by G. Hellwig. Attribution based on similarities to TieWV 165 and other examples of late workshop style (probably by this time under direction of J.H. Goldt). Museum (via M. Herzog): “Made in the Tielke tradition,” with ivory edging to table, small oval rosette; arched back with relief carving in single stripe down center; black-and-white inlay work on back of pegbox. New fingerboard by G. Hellwig in 1960s. Dimensions 67.5, 31.5/22.5/38.7, 13.4, 68.0.
