Comments:

Not in Senn & Roy 1986. 7-piece striped back, 3-piece striped ribs. Now with bird’s-eye maple veneered fingerboard and tailpiece. Front has been thinned; bass bar not original. Had been converted to a cello when acquired by Kessler in early 1960s; not restored until early 1990s, by John Topham. Neck and pegbox not original, now with old S. German lion’s head that it had while a cello. Dimensions from Harders: widths taken on back. Currently owned by a Swiss collector and played by Rebeka Rusó (per Tilman Muthesius, 3/12). Per Benjamin Schröder, labels with only 2 printed digits used from c. 1659-1662, hence suggested date.
