Comments:

Hellwig 2011, TieWV 070; not in Hellwig 1980. 2-piece table with double purfling and probably non-original bass bar; 2-piece back (flat with fold) of bird’s-eye maple with no purfling; ribs also of bird’s-eye maple. Peg for top string is closest to nut; neck formerly narrowed, then skillfully widened. Varnish has coalesced in blobs of various sizes, but original nearly everywhere. Back widths 28.6/21.6/35.6. Technical drawing (and X-rays of neck foot and top block) at Musée de la musique, Paris. Hel 1989: 19th-C. conversion to 5 or 4 strings, but few changes to body; neck has been narrowed, then widened, but pegbox unchanged; palisander pegs much later. Dimensions 63.7, 29.5/22.0/35.8, 12.6, 64.0.
