Comments:

Martius MH 4. Martius 2015 (not seen; all info from Daniel Day at BYU): table with ink purfling; bass bar not original; back apparently 1-piece. Neck not original; grafted pegbox; carved head perhaps 17C English. Probably converted to cello at some point; reconversion probably done for van der Straeten. Later “Repaired by Robert Kinney in Bayonne, N.J. 1936” (label). Back widths 29.0/21.6/35.5. Loveless 1956: dimensions taken on back, in inches; (“length of back 21 3/8” [= 54.3 cm] probably an error, perhaps for 27 3/8” [= 69.5 cm); widths 29.2/21.6/35.9, ribs 14.0, string length 65.4. (Van der Straeten 1910c: back and ribs of pear; Loveless 1956: body constructed from pine and maple.)
