Comments:
Restored 1995-96 by Fred Lindeman, Amsterdam; had been converted to a violin. (Lindemann 2011 says he made “a new neck, fingerboard and tailpiece and a relengthened pegbox for the fifth string,” based on research at Musée de la musique and Germanisches Nationalmuseum.) Possibly by Chappuy; head certainly by La Fille. 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side. Fretted. 2-piece arched back, overlanging edges. Repair inscription on inside of back: “réparé par Laussedat à Clermont Ferrand” (per Vannes, a piano manufacturer that also repaired string instruments, mid-19C).
