“A treble viol converted from a pardessus de viole.” 2-piece back of root maple with some bird’s-eye markings; ribs similar. Parchment rose in table; 4-fold diamond inlays at upper corners. Neck and head are later. Length of body [sic] 34.3 cm. Michael Heale (TGM visit, 10/01) says he made new neck and head for Oliver Brooks, who consigned it to this sale. Resembles P. Morant 1709 viol in Young 1985, p. 128.
