2-piece table with single purfling, and very flat arching; 2-piece back with double purfling with very bright center strip. Body has been reshaped, especially at shoulders. Rib depth 12.9 at center bouts. Pegbox has 5 plugged holes; neck rather narrow and inset into table; both cello-influenced. Solid ebony fingerboard has jagged lower edge; hookbar is enclosed in ribs. Top, bottom, and corner blocks unusually large, also back crossbars and joint reinforcements. “Restored by / Janos Bodar / Philadelphia, PA 1975” [printed except 75; label also signed by him on top edge, and by son Ladislaus Bodar on bottom edge]; “Restored by Janos Bodar /Phila. Pa. 1974” (handwritten in ink inside back]. W. Monical (in conversation, 9/10): a genuine Norman suffering from heavy-handed restoration. Table ornament Type V, back center BN monogram, above Type IIIa, below Type III.
