Comments:
Pointed corners but sloping shoulders; flat back. Sachs: Altviola; double purfling. Lütgendorff 1922 calls it a Maggini. Snoeck: “Facture Italienne de école de Brescia...double filets, genre Maggini”; body length 50 cm. Shown with tail gut. Otto & Adelmann 1975: many repairs of cracks and worm damage; neck and fittings new, former not historically correct; tailgut. Otterstedt 2004: “wahrscheinlich ein Mixtum compositum aus verschiedenen Zeiten, stilistische Einordnung um 1600”. Beuting 2007 (also Otterstedt): dendrochronology gives date of 1479 for for youngest growth ring on table. Hirsch & Kirnbauer 2016, p. 29: cross-matches well with Linarol viols in Nice (C.38) and Vienna (SAM 73).
