Martius (based on examination 2007): 4-piece table, carved, with painted purfling, fairly high arching, and new bass bar; probably 18th-C. 3-piece back of plum (?) with double blond purfling, coarse linen lining, 3 new crossbars and original soundpost plate glued to a thick new one; ribs also of plum, with unmitred corners and no corner blocks. Top block original, bottom block perhaps also. Head possibly original; neck and pegbox (with two grafts) probably from 1930s-50s; all fittings new including tailgut and button replacing hookbar. Dimensions: 71.9, 34.9/24.2/41.4, 12.4, -. TGM adds: 2-piece table with 2 wings and inked purfling (2 lines), high arching, C-holes very vertical. 3-piece back of fruitwood, with 2 separate tracks of light purfling on perimeter only. Neck angled back sharply, rather narrow and rounded; pegbox unfluted; tailgut to button replacing original hookbar; bridge by “Atelier Musik Hug Zurich”. Label runs along soundpost plate (not across), perhaps repositioned due to cloth lining all across back; 2 crossbars above, 1 below. Drescher (based on visit 8/96): table probably of 4 pieces with wings in lower bouts, and painted purfling. Back 4-piece (sic), of dark wood (plum?), with inlaid purfling of two light stripes. “Massive” soundpost plate plus one other cross brace below and two above; large parts of back (and table) covered with coarse cloth (new?); very small corner blocks. Neck and pegbox new; lion head probably old. Museum data sheet: restored in 1986 “durch Hernn Wieser, Musik-Hug”; dimensions 71.9, 33.1/23.0/41.0, 12.4,- (taken on back).
