Comments:
Drescher: New neck, quite angled. May have been completely revarnished. Head may not belong to instrument. Fingerboard and tailpiece new, probably also bass bar. Table with wide triple purfling. Center joint of back reinforced by a massive strip of wood with a “roof-peak” (original?). Soundpost plate somewhat crude; two other crossbars, above and below; linings and corner blocks. Bridge and hookbar by Paul Reichlin. Overall: perhaps a good imitation by Hill & Sons using some original parts? Menzel’s dimensions 65.9, 29.8/22.6/36.8, 13.4, 67.4 (Could this be the same as the 1723 Rombouts bass in Baron de Lery’s auction, 1910?)
