Comments:

Gallini 1963: made for Esposizione Internazionale di Milano of 1906 [sic], commissioned by Antonio Monzino, proprietor of a long-established music business; dimensions 63, -/-/38, 10.8, -. Gatti 1997 [NB: Body lengths and widths taken on back]: since label is dated 1908, perhaps Gallini meant it was made for the Mostra di Milano of 1910; or story may refer to another instrument. Date of original also doubtful, since Pellegrino didn’t begin to work in Brescia until c. 1560, when his father died. 2-piece back, arched, no fold; 2-piece table. Head is a devil, probably by A. Perego, who frequently collaborated with Antoniazzi and the Monzini family. 2 rows of double purfling, front and back; diamond inlays at top (only) of back. TGM: Original still extant, but undated; was restored in 1906 by Mozino in Milan when Antoniazzi was working there; “copy” is larger (original: 59.6, 28.8/20.5/36.4, 10.1, -).
