Neck by G. Kellischek, c. 1972 (Neumann to Tourin, who also says the last two digits of the date “are hard to read ... probably 1712”). 2-piece table with rosette and narrow double purfling; 2-piece back with no purfling. Large, plain pegbox has plugged 7th hole; tailpiece still has 7 holes; it and fingerboard are of rosewood with scalloped diagonal ends nearest bridge. Now has wire tailgut, but formerly a hookbar. Monical (letter to Smithsonian, 12/00): head old but not original; rosette and label plausibly genuine. Monical’s dimensions: 63.6, 31.0/22.5/37.9, 12.3, 66.1; Tourin’s dimensions, converted from inches: 63.5, 31.0/23.2/38.1, 12.4, 67.0.
