Museum admits it’s not a genuine Hummel (Monical 1979: “spurious printed label of Matthias Humel [sic]”). Repair label: “Restored Nov 1943 Dec. / Fred J. Markert / New York City”. Martius 1996: label was cut out of Kinsky’s catalogue; also, dendrochronology (by P. Klein) gives date of 1704 for youngest growth ring on table.
