Not in Senn & Roy 1986. Pegbox and upper neck probably from another instrument, not skillfully done (by J. Jais?); new fingerboard, tailpiece, and bridge are more recent. Label hard to read, may say 1652 or 1662. Rosette removed. Restored 1969-73 by Arnold Sprenger (St. Gall). Repair inscription: “Wie Gott wil. Johan Jais / Repariert Bogen 1801” [in pencil inside top]. Museum website: “Das Instrument ist jedoch zu stark verändert, um ein wirkliches Zeugnis für Stainers erste Versuche im Gambenbau zu vermitteln.”
