MacCracken 2016, p. 194; Palmer 1981, p. 28; Dolmetsch 1978, p. 60; Dolmetsch 1972, p. 5
MacCracken 2016, pp. 195 (FB+S), 197 (table ornament); Dolmetsch 1978, p. 61 (front 7/8, head 3/4); Dolmetsch 1905, p. 113 (head side); [by TGM: FB+S, head FB+S, table ornament (color)]
Table of 2 main pieces plus 4 wings; back of 2 pieces; both with double purfling. Table has central floral ornament, back has ovals at bottom and below fold. Clear graft between neck and pegbox; bridge unmarked, but same pattern as museum’s 1713 Norman, which is stamped Arnold Dolmetsch. Fingerboard and tailpiece with scalloped ends, hookbar with threaded hole for endpin. Lion head unusually narrow and angular; pegbox quite narrow at highest peg. Palmer 1981 says pegbox & head may be German, though Dolmetsch 1978 claims lion’s head is original. Tourin dimensions 67.5, 30.0/-/-37.0, 11.5, 66.5 (NB body length much too long).
