[Unpublished, from F. Lowenberger 11/09: FB+S (color)]
Restored by Federico Lowenberger, 2009: new neck (length determined by bridge marks on table and contemporary iconography) and repair of cracks and worm damage; previously restored in 1906 (including cello-style neck and removal of internal fittings) by Innocente Rottola of the Mozino workshop (Milan), who signed the bass bar. Pearwood back and ribs; 1-piece table, slab cut; no soundpost plate on back. Back dimensions 59.2, 29.1/21.1/36.6. Body shape very similar to “Bowcleffe” tenor viol, including highly pointed corners; Lowenberger believes it’s by the same maker (or shop) as PARIS 13. This is the viol on which Antoniazzi (loosely) modeled his of 1908, made while working in the Mozino shop; but his date of 1540 for the original was evidently just a guess.
