Vidal 1889, chap. 5, s.v. Saint-Paul
[”Settembre Musica” poster online at (3/4 view [color])]; [unpublished, seen at J. Kraft’s but not copied]
Striped back with double purfling. Long and wide C-holes. Pegbox has carved back and sides (flower heads now misaligned with pegholes); 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side, with angular edges. Black fingerboard and tailpiece, white hookbar. Set up with only 4 strings when acquired by C. Payeux in 1989. Probably the same mentioned by Vidal 1889: “Nous avons trouvé l’étiquette suivante...dans un pardessus de viole vernis jaune, tête sculptée: Antonius Saint-Paul, propè Comoediam Gallican, Lutetiae, anno 1772. Cela est imprimé dans le cartel de Louis Guersan, dont it fut le successeur.”
