Hellwig 2011, TieWV 084; Hellwig 1980, no. 046. Baryton body outline, but originally built as a viol. 2-piece table with ivory edging and double purfling; 2-piece back (arched) with glued-on carved ornaments at top, middle, and bottom. Neck, head, fingerboard, and tailpiece not original; dimensions: 73.9, 36.4/28.7/43.1, 14.4; date c. 1689 (reasons not given). Otto & Adelmann dimensions 74.0, 36.7/28.4/43.0, 14.5, 72.0. Hellwig 2011 adds: 5-piece table; middle joint of back now closed with purfling; upper of 3 ornaments enlarged in poor style; pegbox and lion’s head in style of Jais or other makers from same region. Back widths 36.4/27.9/42.8. Despite body outline, no evidence it ever was a baryton, but may have been made extra-large (perhaps with only 5 strings) for bass-line use (cf. TieWV 77); no doubt about attribution to Tielke.
