Arched back; pointed corners, overhanging edges; fold undone when converted to a cello. Poor condition, with worm damage, cracks, abraded edges of table, etc. Miller 1994: lower two-thirds of body is intact and unmodified; so nearly identical to 1611 Amati bass at Ashmolean that they must have been built from the same mold and pattern. Scroll by Grancino (C. Beare to Smithsonian, 1989). Came to Smithsonian in 1965, but ownership not transferred until 1991. Chiesa 2002: back arching is slight and quite different from that on Amati cellos.
