Rounded shoulders, 3-piece arched back; length of back 70.2. Had cello neck when sold by Sotheby’s as “The Property of a Lady”; (re-?) converted to viol, with new neck, pegbox, open scroll, fingerboard, and tailpiece by Michael Heale, 1976-77. Hebbert 2001: Bass violin. 3-piece table, 3-piece back (with bent center stave), double purfling, neck probably original, fingerboard and tailpiece not. Table ornament Type IV, back center BN monogram, upper and lower Type II.
