Otterstedt 1986, p. 45 (with table removed, neck separate); [unpublished, from museum: FB+S, with table removed]; [by TGM 11/10, on display: F+B 3/4 (color)]
Back is arched in all directions; 10 staves. Good condition, original bass bar and neck. 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side. Otterstedt’s dimensions include rib heights 4.1, 6.7, 6.2. Drawing by Olga Adelmann (1957) available from museum. Otto & Adelmann 1975: altered original neck replaced; fittings also new. 10-piece striped back (birch and walnut) with narrow black purfling at each joint; ribs also birch. 3-piece table with painted purfling. Tailgut, and ribs narrowed toward bottom: perhaps meant for playing on the arm, but here classified as “Alt-tenor-viola da gamba.” (TGM: Karpp’s 2 other tenors are significantly larger and have deeper ribs.) Despite lack of label, undoubedly attributable to Karpp, based on lion head, soundholes, use of birch for back and ribs, 3-piece table, details of interior construction.
