Fleming 2001: VME 18
Fleming 2001: VME F18 (front, body only [color]); [unpublished, from M. Fleming: FB+S, head side (color); from T. Bingham via M.A. Ballard: front 3/4, back; from I. Harwood via J. Pringle: head 3/4]
Striped back (3 dark, 2 light); dark sections have double border lines in lighter wood, as does each section of the ribs. Fleming 2001: 6-piece table, double purfling front and back; largely original, possibly including neck. Levy to TGM 11/02: fingerboard and tailpiece (with perimeter line and diamond pattern at bridge end of each) are by Hill; says both D. Kessler & T. Muthesius think it’s by Jaye; J. Topham’s dendrochronology gives a late-16C date. Seen but not measured, 8/03: heavy; neck rather rounded, and string spacing narrow at nut. No graft between pegbox and either head or neck; 2 wedges on neck; hookbar perhaps not original.
