Head is Dutch work, c. 1700; neck, fingerboard, and tailpiece also not original. Restored by Ingo Muthesius, Berlin, 1974; previous comprehensive restoration by Paul Gerhard Schmidt, Amsterdam, 1940. Dimensions 67.0, 31.0/23.0/37.0, 12.4, -. Muthesius 2005: non-original table replaced in 1974; back of pegbox redone, having been modified for cello conversion. Hellwig 2011 adds: no purfling on back; pegbox and head Dutch, 2H17C; body widths taken on back. Interior label, in Dutch and signed “H v. K.”, documents acquisition in 1928 and repair work in 1940. Attribution based on body outline and arching; dating by G. Hellwig.
