2-piece table and back; pegs and bridge not original; repaired in 1884 by Gand & Bernardel frères (Gétreau 1988, p. 78). (Milliot 1997: table with single BWB purfling, very close to edges; no liners. On display 8/02. Website: “Cette splendide viole ... a servi ... de modèle à une production en série fabriquée à Mirecourt.” Gétreau 1996, p. 241, n. 280, says the 1720 Bertrand sold at auction of Léon Savoye’s collection in 1882 may be the same as the one later owned by Mme de Chambure and now at the Musée de la musique; but hers, E.980.2.393, is dated 1706.
