Wackernagel: “Ursprünglich Viola d’amore mit oder ohne Resonanzsaiten,” S. Germany, 18th C.; label probably fake. 2-piece table (dendrochronology gives dates of 1709/1717 for youngest growth rings) with high arching, ribs and 1-piece back of bird’s-eye maple; neck, pegbox and all fittings (except possibly top two pegs) not original but head may be; fingerboard originally for a larger instrument. 4 pegs treble, 3 bass side. Tourin: arm viol.
