Freiheit 2008 (Musik im Bachhaus)

Martius JCH 10. Original neck (though-neck construction); open-back pegbox with carving on all sides; head of best quality. Originally for 6 strings, but 7th probably added soon after 1725, perhaps by Hoffmann himself; 4 pegs original, 3 others from the rebuild. Bass bar and end button bored for an endpin are not original; preserved old bridge may be (with notches for both 6- and 7-string setups). Dendrochronology (by Micha Beuting) gives date of 1719 for youngest growth ring on table. Restored 1983 by Wolfgang Wenke, including new bridge and fingerboard. Back widths 30.6/21.3/38.2. Heyde 1975: “in allen Teilen original” (but see above; Martius 2015: “Zubehörteile weitestgehend original, bzw. aus der Zeit des Umbaus”), dimensions 69.25, 31.15/21.85/38.35, 12.9, 69.3; Breidert & Freyse 1964 dimensions 69, 31.7/-/38.5, 13, -.
