Caldwell 2012, pp. 58-61 (FB+S, head FB+S [color]); [by TGM: FB+S, label (color)]

Caldwell 1989 (Lawes: Oberlin Consort)

Restored by Michael Heale, including neck, pegbox and head, fingerboard and tailpiece, new edges to upper bouts. Had 5 strings when purchased; Francais thought it was French. Caldwells formerly believed it was by J.C. Hoffmann, based on similarity to Halle 224; but both attributions now abandonned. Soundholes have no curve at upper ends. Original label illegible; handwritten repair label: Bei der Reparatur dieses Instruments wurde der beigeklebte Zettel gefunden, auf welchem zwar kein Name mehr aber noch die Jahreszahl 1526 order 76 ermittelt wurde. Tourin: odd C-holes; dimensions 69.0, 30.5/22.5/37.5, 12.5, 71.0
