M. Tapio to TGM, 2/05
[Unpublished, from M. Tapio: F+B, body only; table ornament; lower back ornament (color); also from T. Muthesius 11/10: F+B body only, C bouts, details of ornaments (color)]
Perimeter “purfling” is only painted; table ornament incomplete, lacking cross-hatching and brand stamp; soundholes purfled. Back ornaments at fold and bottom, with larger one in center, all diamonds plus arrows. Neck not original. Hebbert (to TGM, 2/05): Table appears to be 3-piece; probably built by a journeyman from parts prepared in Norman workshop; date perhaps 1693-96, based on design of table ornament (= Type IV, but unfinished); back center Type I, above and below not in Hebbert’s typology but cf. Yale 4665 (diamonds and center-pointing arrowheads).
