Comments:

Website: head not original (“sur modèle du XVIIIe”); neck, fingerboard, and tailpiece are 19th-C. Dimensions above taken from Anne Houssay’s worksheet at museum; range of string lengths reflects four possible bridge positions, lowest completely below C-holes. Back of walnut, now divided into 5 pieces by thin black strips added later, with the outer two cutting through the double purfling. Ribs also walnut; table also with double purfling. Neck original but narrowed for use as a cello; pegbox has carved back and sides. Top block has 5 nails in pattern of a cross; back has no crossbars, not even for the soundpost; hookbar has 2 long ivory pegs protruding.
