Chiesa 2002, p. 90 (front, head side); Herzog 2002, p. 157 (front); Spotti 1988, pp. 138-41 (F+B body only, head FB+S)
Back is arched below (high) fold-line; pointed corners, overhanging edges. Neck and fingerboard not original, likewise current label. At one time evidently set up with only 4 or 5 strings. Initial M [Spotti: W] branded on the nut suggests originally made for Medici family, like bass at Ashmolean (Boyden 1969). Back and ribs of maple cut on the slab. Intact original varnish. Body measurements taken on back. Chiesa 2002: back arching is slight and quite different from that on Amati cellos.
