Comments:

ter Linden 1981 (German pre-Bach)

Black-and-white edging to table; long and slender extension to carved head, which forms a hook. Not known if back and neck are original. Metal tuning pegs in bottom block for 7 sympathetic strings, running only to top end of table. (Photo and other credits in ter Linden 1981 give maker’s first name as Thomas, but Tomaso Eberle wasn’t born until 1727 and worked in Naples; perhaps someone believes this label does not belong to this viol?)
