Comments:

Converted to cello. 2-piece table, triple purfling, low arching, oval rosette surrounded by ebony and mother of pearl border, under end of fingerboard. 2-piece back, purfling along joint as well as perimeter. Ribs of palisander (rosewood). No corner blocks; 2 crossbars each in upper and lower bouts (not original). Dendrochronology shows both halves of table from same log, whose rings stop at 1672, supporting date on label, though no proof it is original to this instrument.
