5-piece table (perhaps not original?), 3-piece back, both with double purfling; no rose or other decoration. Neck original, but shortened and angled back; pegbox and head also original. Fingerboard (shortened) and tailpiece have multi-color inlay of birds, flowers, etc. Hookbar has carved top; relief carving on shoulder does not continue on neck heel. Numerous crossbars on back; these and wooden linings and bass bar not original; ribs doubled except at shoulders; many repairs and reinforcements. Back widths 33.1/23.7/40.0. Catch 2007: sold by Harding at Sotheby’s on 12/17/1954 (lot 88) for £120; catalogue described it as “in original condition...formerly owned by Canon Galpin.” BVMA 2000: “acquired by...Galpin at a Puttick and Simpson auction sale.” Tourin: 5-piece table, modern neck, double purfling (HAGUE 18).
