Nicolas Bertrand à Paris, 1712
No. of Strings:
Emma Charlier Guénot [great-grandmother of present owner], c. 1910-
Jean-Paul Funck-Brentano (owner’s husband) to TGM, 12/02; J. Kraft drawing seen 9/02
[Unpublished, from J. Kraft 5/13: F+S, head F+S and 3/4, back at an angle, bottom rib and table arching, neck side (color)]
Dimensions from drawing, so not over arching. Has original fingerboard, tailpiece, and nut; 2-piece back. Serious worm damage, especially to pegbox, means it can’t be tuned up. Photos of pegbox (seen but not copied) show plain sides, front edges, and back below hair; man’s head has moustache and perhaps a crown (very unlike Paris museum treble). Repaired/restored by a certain Monsieur Vian for owner’s great-grandmother, and used in her ensemble “Vielle France”.
