Comments:

Table seems to be 2-piece (with wing for lower bass bout, at least), with double purfling. Back probably doesn’t belong to rest: has scratched-and-inked purfling and arabesque designs, and no soundpost plate (label is glued diagonally directly onto back). Shoulders have been reshaped on both table and back, by adding as much as 2 cm of width on each side. Lion head also unlikely to be original: very ornate, high-profile carving, with 2 fangs and luxuriant mane. Bridge placed above middle of C’s when seen. Repair label: “reparée / par Jean-Petit luthier / à Besançon an 1834,” glued next to Cole label.
