Comments:

Museum’s website: lyrone, basse de lyre; based on Mersenne’s illustration of a “Lyre” (Book 4, Proposition 8). 3-piece table with black-and-white edging and coat of arms above soundholes; ribs and 1-piece back of walnut; fingerboard, tailpiece (with cloverleaf cutout), and pegs of elm. Inscription: LAVDATE EVM IN TIMPANO ET CHORO LAVDATE EVM (Ps. 150:4). Strung similarly to Brussels 488 (DHV 1593), with 2 strings beyond bass edge of fingerboard, but soundholes and body outline different: here only a single curve in upper bouts, upper corners less pointed, “dimples” in lower bouts closer to bottom.
