Gétreau 1996 gives origin as “Allemagne (?) Italie (?) XVIIIe s”; website says only “Allemagne, 18e”. Tailpiece not original. Repaired for P. Cesbron by the workshop of Jombar (Gétreau 1996, p. 471). W. Monical (to TGM 10/16): Swedish, c. 1720 or later, based on elongated outline with long, highly placed, sloping center bouts, thin table and back edges, single purfling on table and back, and use of figured birch for back and ribs; cf. Rönnegren at Boston MFA and Mothe in Brooklyn. Modern grafted neck with an extraordinary neck-foot; peg-box and carved head in “Paris” style very probably original, possibly of service wood.
