Fantasia 5 (Meyer no. 9)
In this first of three aeolian fantasias, a characteristic canzona figure begins,
immediately variable in its constituent intervals. A consequent motive continues,
with a more contrasting syncopated pace, and a further variant arises as the motion
turns to flat accidentals. All three are exploited with fluid counterpoints. The second
section begins with a duo texture, again with fluid treatment and with increased syncopation.
